Women’s Army Corp (WAC) Exercise Suit

The Women’s Army Corp (WAC) Exercise Suit, also known as the PT Suit (PT = Physical Training) is pretty straightforward to sew if you have a bit of experience, and there’s a matching hat! Digital Patterns for both are available in my Etsy shop. I’ve also got some videos on YouTube and a Pinterest page for the WAC Exercise Suit, but let’s get started here by listing some helpful resources for making your very own Women’s Army Corps Exercise Suit from World War II.

WAC Exercise Suit:

Recommended Brown & White Striped Seersucker on Amazon – this is a poly/cotton blend, but is the closest I have been able to find to the original fabric.

These buttons from Amazon are similar to the originals, but I ultimately used ones I was able to purchase in person in the Los Angeles Fashion District.

WAC Summer Hat:

Khaki Cotton Twill at OnlineFabricStore.com – this is a shade lighter than the original, but it matches the recommended Brown Eyelets on Amazon quite well. If you can find both in a shade darker, please share your sources!

This is the Brown Twill Tape I found on Amazon, – it doesn’t show on the finished hat.

100% Cotton Fusible Interfacing from Joann’s

Shoes:

Women’s Lunea Lace-Up Apparel Sneakers from Target. Use a disposable brush to apply Plasti-Dip to the soles and tips of the toes.

Wear Carhartt Crew Socks inside-out, then turn the tops down. This shade matches the rest of the ensemble best. I would love to hear if you find actual turn down socks that work!
